On July 10, 2012 and August 14, 2012 Everett Safe Water attended meetings of the Snohomish Health District Board. Some eight or nine of us presented well-informed testimony to the Board regarding the addition of lead, arsenic, and fluoride to Everett drinking water and delivered lengthy written documents to the Board on this subject, including copies of and references to numerous peer reviewed medical and scientific journals.

Among those testifying were a lawyer, a medical doctor, a pharmacist, a chemistry professor, a woman with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, and a woman with thyroid disease who must avoid drinking Everett water lest she be sickened.

Professor Richard Sauerheber analyzed a June 1, 2012, letter written by Dr. Mark Goldbaum in his letter dated September 11, 2012, and showed it to be full of errors and omissions. Read Professor Sauerheber’s letter here:

Dr. Goldbaum has not replied to Professor Sauerheber’s September 11 letter.

DEMAND FOR WRITTEN RESPONSE FROM DR. GOLDBAUM

Dr. Goldbaum has not responded in writing since June 1 to the well-informed written and oral testimony delivered by myself and other members of Everett Safe Water, including peer reviewed scientific journal articles. We are demanding that Dr. Goldbaum respond in writing to the articles and the letters we have presented. If he fails to respond, it will be an admission that Everett Safe Water is correct and he is wrong.

DEMAND FOR HEARING BEFORE PROGRAM POLICY COMMITTEE

At the August 14 Board meeting it was mentioned that the Program Policy Committee would meet and discuss the issues raised. I made it clear that we would like to be notified of the meeting so we could attend.

At the Board meeting on September 11, 2012, it was announced that at some time between August 14 and September 11 the Program Policy Committee had met and had heard from Dr. Goldbaum that the Program Policy Committee had decided that “no further action would be taken”. No one connected with the Board notified me or any other Everett Safe Water members that the Program Policy Committee was going to meet.

Ms Kinnamon said that Dr. Goldbaum and Mark Lamb had met with the Program Policy Committee and concluded that no new information had been presented since the 1989 fluoridation decision which would change the Board position regarding fluoridation. In light of the pounds of journal articles delivered to the Board, this is an astonishing and absurd finding.

It was grossly improper for the Program Policy Committee to meet without notifying Everett Safe Water. I am demanding that the Program Policy Committee reconvene so that Everett Safe Water can hear the testimony offered by Dr. Goldbaum and provide the Program Committee with proper balance and a response to Dr. Goldbaum’s inadequate and incorrect view of these issues.

REQUEST FOR DOCUMENTS

On behalf of Everett Safe Water, I am demanding that the Board send me any and all written notes or documents and any audio or video recordings of the aforesaid meeting of the Program Policy Committee.

DEMAND FOR PUBLIC TESTIMONY FROM DR. GOLDBAUM

Everett Safe Water intends to attend the October 9 meeting of the Board. Everett Safe Water demands that Dr. Goldbaum come out of hiding and respond at that meeting regarding the issues which Everett Safe Water is raising. If Dr. Goldbaum fails to respond orally to the facts raised by Everett Safe Water, it should be presumed that he is conceding that he is wrong and that Everett Safe Water is right: It is not safe, not effective, and not legal to add lead, arsenic, hydrogen fluoride, and fluorosilicic acid to our drinking water.
